Softball Splits Double-Header With Hamilton

THE BASICS: 

Game One Score: Hamilton 12, Wesleyan 10

The Lead: The Wesleyan University softball team split a double-header with Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Continentals got on the board first with an RBI from Kendall Searcy.
  • Christina Zaccardi '17 and Julie McDonald '18 walked to force in a runs in the second to put the Cardinals up 2-1.
  • Hamilton would score once in the second and three times in the third to go back ahead 5-2.
  • Wesleyan would explode for eight runs in the fourth inning to take a 10-5 lead. Rielly Wieners '18, Kendall Carr '19, Hayley Lipson '20 and Olivia Gorman '19 all notched RBI in the inning.
  • The home team would score once in the fourth, five times in the fifth and once in the sixth en route to the 12-10 win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Zaccardi put the Cardinals on top 1-0 in the second with a sacrifice fly that plated Jamie Hom '17.
  • The home team took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run single from Hannah Staab.
  • Hamilton went up 4-1 on a 2-run single from Sear.
  • The Cardinals scored five times in the sixth to to take 6-4 advantage. Gorman, McDonald, Wieners and Lipson all notched RBIs in the inning.
  • A sacrifice fly would bring the home team to within one run in the sixth inning at 6-5.
  • Wesleyan would add two insurance runs in the seventh on a two-run homerun from Rachel Kantor '19, and it would claim game two by an 8-5 margin.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow, Sunday April 30th as they will host Little Three Rival at 1 p.m.
