Women's Hockey Blanks Williams 3-0 in NESCAC Opener

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's hockey team (3-1-0, 1-0-0) triumphed 3-0 over Williams during its NESCAC opener on Saturday evening. Cardinal goaltender Allegra Grant played a critical role during the win, recording an impressive 38 saves to hand the Ephs (3-2-0, 1-2-0) their first shutout since December 2017.

  • Wesleyan opened the scoring at the 7:45 mark of the first period when Allie Damren found the back of the net after a pass from Sarah Takahashi, making it 1-0.
  • The Ephs looked for the equalizer at the 14:42 mark when Meghan Halloran one-timed a pass in slot, but Cardinal netminder Grant denied the opportunity.
  • Wesleyan's Cali Stevens looked to add a tally just 52 seconds into the second frame, but Williams' goaltender Marissa Anderson thwarted the chance.
  • The Ephs were relentless in the second period, taking 17 shots in 20 minutes, but Grant denied all of the opportunities to preserve the one-goal lead heading into the third frame.
  • The Cardinals added a second tally at the 13:50 mark of the third period when Ally Detre redirected a shot by Caroline Seibold, to make it 2-0.
  • Wesleyan extended its lead to three (3-0) when Maggie Curran blasted the puck into an empty Eph goal at the 18:41 mark, solidifying the shutout for Wesleyan.
