PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The 12th-ranked Wesleyan University women's lacrosse team cruised to a commanding 14-4 win over Babson College Tuesday morning in its first game of the team's Spring Break Florida trip. The Cardinals (5-1) were led by Caitlin Wood '19, who tallied three goals, while eight others factored into the scoring. Taylor Thorbahn paced the Beavers (3-4) with two points on two assists.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wesleyan got on the board first off a free position shot from Abigail Horst '19 at the 27:44 mark.
- After Babson evened the score with a goal by Catherine Collins, Wood put the Cardinals back on top just 49 seconds later with an unassisted marker.
- Wood's goal sparked a 6-0 Wesleyan run, which was capped off by a score from Emma Richards '20 at the 4:06 mark. Wood scored twice during the stretch.
- As time was expiring in the half, Juliana McGuire found the back of the net with just 14 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to five at the break, 7-2.
- The Beavers wasted no time scoring in the second half as Julia Harrigan scored in just 48 seconds.
- However, Wood once again started a large Wesleyan run with an unassisted goal at the 27:26 mark. The Cardinals scored seven unanswered goals as Grace Andonian '20 capped off the run at the 6:46 mark to give Wesleyan a commanding 14-3 lead.
- Riley Buonagurio scored the final goal of the game with 23 seconds on the clock to make it a 14-4 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Andonian, Horst and Richards each scored twice while Julia Gretsky '20 registered two points on one goal and one assist. Caroline Sgaglione '19 led all players with five draw controls and a team-high four ground balls. Sophomore goalie Allegra Grant stopped eight of 12 shots she faced.
- Four different players scored for Babson. Maria Bravo posted a game-high five ground balls and Julia Harrigan led the team with three draw controls.
- Wesleyan was a perfect 17-of-17 on clear attempts and outshot the Beavers 19-13. The Cardinals were also 2-of-5 on free position attempts while Babson was 0-of-6.

- Wesleyan remains in Florida and will play St. Lawrence on Thurs., March 22 at Dever Park in Englewood, Fla. The game is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
