Women's Soccer Blanks Bowdoin, 2-0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn.– The Wesleyan women's soccer team (3-2-0, 1-1-0) bested the Bowdoin Polar Bears (1-2-1, 1-2-0) 2-0 on Jackson Field Saturday afternoon. The contest was the Cardinals' second NESCAC matchup of the season, avenging the 1-1 tie that came in the last meeting between the two teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Andi Wiley had a chance to score for Wesleyan at the  13:56 mark, but her rebound off Lauren Goetzman's shot went just high of the goal.
  • The Cardinals got on the board at the 29:29 mark when Wiley's throughball found the foot of Liz Young, before her shot slipped past the hands of Bowdoin goalkeeper Sabrina Albanese to make it 1-0.
  • With less than eight minutes to go in the second half, Goetzman rifled the ball into the top right corner of the net, making it 2-0.
  • Bowdoin attempted to mount a comeback with two shots from Aine Lawlor and Sophia Lemmer, but Wesleyan goalkeeper Zoe Cassels-Brown thwarted both opportunities to preserve the shut out.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Cassels-Brown earned the win in goal, making just four stops, while Albanese suffered the loss in goal for the Polar Bears with seven saves.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals will host their third home game of the season against Mount Holyoke on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
