Wesleyan Battles Hamilton to 2-2 OT Draw

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's hockey team (4-9-1, 1-6-1) skated to a 2-2 OT draw at Hamilton (10-4-2, 4-2-2) on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Hamilton opened the scoring 10:09 into the first period when a persistent Nancy Loh found the back of the net from the slot, making it 1-0.
  • Wesleyan took the final four shots of the period, but Continental goaltender Sidney Molnar denied all opportunities to hang onto the early lead.
  • Out of the break, Hamilton extended its lead to 2-0 with 5:38 expired. Missy Segall took advantage of a defensive Cardinal breakdown, before sending a pass to Mya Berretta at the left faceoff circle. Beretta used a wrister to beat Wesleyan's netminder Allegra Grant high on the blocker side.
  • The Cardinals responded just 1:27 later after an initial shot by Cali Stevens hit the outside of the left pipe. Sarah Takahashi collected the rebound before sending it to Jackie Kilar. Kilar found Gina Mangiafridda at the edge of the right faceoff circle, before Mangiafridda one-timed the pass to make it 2-1.
  • Wesleyan's Kilar blasted a wrister from the right faceoff circle during a power play with 1:32 remaining in the second frame, knotting the game 2-2.
  • The teams battled through 20 minutes of scoreless action, sending the game into overtime.
  • Neither team had a quality opportunity to put the game away during the extra session, with Wesleyan taking the only three shots during the stanza, as the teams ended in a 2-2 draw.
