Wrestling Finishes Fourth at Ted Reese Invitational with Two Champions; Gaita Named 'Most Outstanding Wrestler Award'

PORTLAND, Maine - The Wesleyan wrestling team excelled on Saturday at the Ted Reese Invitational hosted by the University of Southern Maine, as the Cardinals finished fourth overall in the 15-team field. Wesleyan had five place-winners on the day with two champions in Tristan Stetson at 133 and Marco Gaita at 174. Additionally, Gaita won "The Most Outstanding Wrestling Award" of the tournament.

TOURNAMENT HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 133 - Stetson went 5-0 on the day and won a sudden victory 3-1 in the finals.
  • 141 - Dylan Jones went 4-2 overall and claimed sixth.
  • 157 - Aaron Goldman took third-place with a 4-1 record.
  • 174 - Gaita led the Cardinals for a third week as he went 4-0 to claim first. On his way to the finals, he defeated the No. 3 wrestler in the country, AJ Aberli of Coast Guard, 3-1 in the semifinals. In the finals, Gaita defeated Chance Lapier of Castleton College, 5-3, avenging a loss from last season.
  • 184 - Duncan Kreutter went 4-1 overall and finished fifth.

UP NEXT:

  • The Ted Reese Invitational was the last tournament of 2019 for the Cardinals. They will return to action in 2020 with the Scott Viera Invitational hosted by Roger Williams on January 4th.
