Cardinals Conclude Season With NESCAC Quarterfinal Loss

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wesleyan women's hockey fell 3-0 at Williams in a NESCAC Quarterfinal matchup on Saturday. With the loss, the Cardinals conclude the season with an 8-15-2 record, while the Ephs (18-4-3) advance to the NESCAC Semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Williams opened the scoring at the 8:55 mark when Michaela O'Connor found the back of the net for the early 1-0 edge.
  • The Ephs capitalized on a five-on-three situation at the 14:44 mark when Mia Carroll sent a pass across the ice to Meghan Halloran, before Halloran put Williams up 2-0.
  • The Cardinals looked to cut the deficit to one with 10 seconds remaining in the first, but Cali Stevens' bid was denied by Williams goaltender Chloe Heiting.
  • Out of the intermission, the Ephs extended their lead to 3-0 with 6:35 expired when Annie Rush snuck the puck past Wesleyan's goaltender Allegra Grant.
  • Wesleyan had a chance to score during a power play with 13:02 expired in the second, but Kendall Carr's shot was thwarted by Heiting.
  • Out of the intermission, the Cardinals came out strong, taking the first four shots of the stanza, but all opportunities were denied by a strong Williams' defense.
  • Wesleyan's final chance to get on the board came with 15:05 expired during a power play, but Sydnée Goyer's attempt was denied by Heiting to preserve the shutout.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Grant suffered the loss for the Cardinals making 21 saves.
  • Heiting made 19 stops to record her fifth shutout of the year.
