Wesleyan Eases Past Clark 3-0

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's soccer team (4-1-2) cruised to a 3-0 victory over Clark (6-4-0) on Sunday afternoon. The victory marks the sixth shutout of the season, as the Cardinals have only allowed two goals against through seven contests.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Nicholas Wallick opened the scoring for Wesleyan when he beat a defender, before tucking the ball inside the left post for the 1-0 edge at the 10:00 mark.
  • Clark had back-to-back opportunities to net the equalizer during the 14th minute, but Cardinal goalkeeper Teddy Lowen denied Sean Munroe's chance, before Cooper Richards shot sailed just high.
  • Neither team had another quality opportunity to score during the first half, as Wesleyan held one-goal advantage heading into the break.
  • Out of the intermission, the Cardinals doubled their lead at the 52:04 mark. Matthew Rubinstein connected with a pass from Jack Wolf, before burying the ball in the bottom right corner for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Wesleyan tacked on another tally at the 86:23 mark when Mike Gallo rifled a shot into the goal to make it 3-0.
  • Clark's best chance to score came with just two minutes remaining in regulation, but Caleb Urrutia's bicycle kick went just wide.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Lowen made 10 saves to pick up the win in goal for the Cardinals, while Marco White made seven stops for the visitors.
  • Wesleyan held an 18-14 edge in shots, while both teams took five corner kicks a piece.
