Wesleyan Defeated by No. 10 Endicott on the Road, 3-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – Despite outshooting No. 10 Endicott on Tuesday night, the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team was defeated on the road by the Gulls, 3-0.

With the loss, the Cardinals are now 6-7-1 on the year. Three different players scored for Endicott as it improved to 15-2 overall.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • It took a little over four minutes for the home team to get on the board as they took advantage of a player-up advantage when Jade Meier and Courtney Sullivan found Ashlie Jones for the score.
  • Wesleyan held a 13-7 advantage in shots during the second period but an insurance tally by Jillian Gibbs, with assists from Tabitha Franceschini and Madison Hentosh at the 11:56 mark, extended the lead to two.
  • Once again, the Cardinals outshot Endicott in the third period with 15-to-8 shots but the visitors were unable to get on the board. With one minute remaining, an empty net goal by Jade Meier put the game away.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sam Smith played in net for Wesleyan and stopped 21 of 23 shots. It was her first loss of the season as she is now 4-1 overall.
  • Alyssa Peterson recorded the shutout for Endicott with 36 saves as she improved to 10-2.

UP NEXT:

  • Wesleyan is back in action on Friday, January 24th as the Cardinals return to conference play and will host Connecticut College at 7 p.m.
