MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Five players scored in double-figures as the Wesleyan men's basketball team cruised to a 91-61 win over non-conference foe Pine Manor College on Saturday afternoon in Silloway Gymnasium.
The Cardinals opened the game on a 13-0 run and never looked back as they improved to 12-5 overall. The Gators were led by Jalen Williams and Brandon Hurst with 15 points each as they fell to 4-16.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wesleyan scored the first 13 points of the game and held Pine Manor scoreless for the first six minutes of action.
- The lead extended to 18-2 seconds later following a 3-pointer from Sam Peek and a layup by Jens Ulrich-Verderber, respectively.
- With 9:23 remaining in the half, a basket by Antone Walker put the home team ahead by 20 as they lead 28-8.
- Wesleyan would take a commanding 50-22 lead at halftime as Peek led the way with 13 points.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS:
- The Cardinals opened the second half with an inbounds alley-oop from Walker to Jordan James.
- Wesleyan would continue to increase its lead and a 3-pointer from Preston Maccoux at the 12:37 mark gave the Cardinals a 73-38 advantage.
- The Gators went on a 16-6 run as Hurst went 3-for-3 from deep.
- However, Wesleyan answered with six straight points to regain a 31-point lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Cardinals held a 60-34 rebounding edge and outscored the Gators 50-30 in the paint.
- Gabe Ravetz scored a game-high 18 points off the bench while Peek dropped 15, Maccoux scored 13, James registered 11, and Walker scored 10. Peek also finished with a double-double as he led all players with 11 boards. Walker was one assist and four rebounds shy of a triple-double. James hauled in nine rebounds and blocked four shots, and Kevin McDonald recorded four steals.
- Williams led the Gators with eight rebounds and Jalen Bruce dished out a game-high four assists.
