Men's Hockey Takes Down No. 9 Williams, 3-1

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's hockey team knocked off the No. 1 team in the NESCAC and the ninth-ranked team in the country, Little Three rival Williams on Friday night in Spurrier-Synder Rink, 3-1.

After a scoreless first period, the Cardinals were the first on the scoreboard in the second and stayed on top throughout the game. Walker Harris was excellent for Wesleyan as he tallied two points on one goal and one assist as the home team improved to 10-8-1 overall and 6-6-1 in the NESCAC. Following the loss, the Ephs dropped to 13-5-1 and 10-3-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Cardinals dominated on the attack in the first period with 20 shots on goal.
  • With 6:44 remaining in the second period, Harris stole the puck and scored on a breakaway shorthanded marker.
  • The home team added an insurance tally just over four minutes later as Harris sent a pass across the crease to Cam Peritz who tipped it in.
  • The Ephs cut the deficit to one in the third period with 3:19 remaining as Wyatt Glover corralled a rebound and found the back of the net.
  • However, Wesleyan quickly responded with a goal by Tyler Wyatt. Matt Zandi sent a pass from the left dot to the right above the crease for a one-timer to seal the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Time Sestak was excellent in net for the Cardinals as he stopped 29 shots.
  • Evan Ruschil made 35 saves for the Ephs.
  • Wesleyan held a 38-30 advantage in shots.

UP NEXT:

  • The Cardinals return to Spurrier-Synder Rink tomorrow to host Middlebury at 3 p.m.
