Dear Past, Present, and Future Wesleyan Student-Athletes,
The Wesleyan Athletic Department echoes President Roth's statements on behalf of the Wesleyan community. We are saddened by the losses of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, and all those who have experienced the senseless loss of a loved one in similar circumstances. We support all victims of racial inequality and violence and commit to standing in solidarity with our black student-athletes, coaches, and community.
We stand by the University's commitment to building an anti-racist community in which hatred and intolerance have no place. We also stand by the Wesleyan Student-Athlete of Color Leadership Council's commitment to listen, engage, and support our black and brown student-athletes.
We must not let acts of racism and injustice continue. We must support each other and work together to do what is right, in both our own lives, on campus, and across the world.
To our future leaders – the Wesleyan student-athletes – we will continue to work on creating a foundation for dialogue based on inclusivity and equality within our athletic and university communities. We must all step up and make the world a better place by educating ourselves and speaking out against racism and injustice.
Black Lives Matter.
