Box Score MIDDLETOWN, CT – The Wesleyan men's tennis team had their first home tournament of the year over the weekend, competing at the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts. There were two Cardinals who reached the finals in their respective singles tournaments, while two others advanced to the Quarterfinals.
Andrew Finkelman '22 and
Harry Portnoy '24 both advanced to the finals of their singles tournaments this Sunday. Finkelman fell in the finals to the number one seeded Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin after fighting hard in the second set 6-3, 7-6 (4). Portnoy won the B Draw with convincing victories over Bryan Schick (6-2, 6-0), Babson's Brady Anderson (6-3, 6-2), and Babson's Nicholas Garcia (6-3, 2-0 (ret.)), before handling a tough test in the championship against #1 seeded Jack Flores of Bowdoin (7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7)).
Some other singles competitors for the Cardinals got wins in the tournament as well.
Peter Anker '22 was able to win his round of 16 match against Beekman Schaeffer 6-2, 6-1, to advance to the Quarterfinals. There he went up against the eventual champion of Draw A, Bowdoin's Tristan Bradley, who beat him 7-6(2), 6-3. Another Cardinal who was able to collect a win was
Noah Lilienthal '22, who took down Middlebury's Zach Hilty 6-4, 6-2 before losing a very competitive match against Bowdoin's Reid Staples 6-3, 6-7(4), 1-0(8) in the Quarterfinals.
