SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The No. 23 ranked Wesleyan women's squash team returned to action for the first time since the late winter of 2020 and the Cardinals made the most of it as they defeated Mount Holyoke, 8-1, on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's match was Wesleyan's first since February 23, 2020 while this marks the first time the Cardinals have opened a season with a win since the 2014-15 campaign.
MATCH HIGHLIGHTS:
- Mount Holyoke took a win at the top of the lineup but the Cardinals coasted to wins throughout the rest of the lineup
- Anika Kewalramani '24 battled her way to a 11-7, 11-9, 11-6 win at #2 over Xaria Durocher in the sophomore's first collegiate match
- Marangela James '24 rolled 11-4, 11-4, 11-1 at #3, defeating Giselle Cabrera
- Portia Pliam '25 dropped just four points in her 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 takedown of Melissa Marquez at #4
- Emma Smith '22, Annie Roach '22 and Sydney Kim '22 all recorded wins in their matchups at #5-7 in the lineup
- Wesleyan also recorded wins by default at #8-9 to finish off the 8-1 win

Wesleyan returns to the courts for three matches at Hamilton on Dec. 4-5. The Cardinals will challenge St. Lawrence on Saturday, Dec. 4 (2 PM) before a match against the host Continentals at 4 PM. Wesleyan will meet William Smith on Dec. 5 to round out the weekend.
