MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's squash team cruised to an 8-1 win on Wednesday night in the Cardinals' home opener against Conn. College. The Cardinals (1-3) made quick work of the Camels behind four 3-0 sweeps across the lineup.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:

• Abhinav Gupta '25 came-from-behind in his match at #2 as he lost the opening game to Billy Fleurima 11-6 before bouncing back with three straight 11-7 wins to claim the point for Wesleyan
• John Sutherby '23 (#3), Preston Crawford '25 (#5) and Jack Lungstrum '25 (#7) all won by 3-1 decisions over their Conn. College counterpart
• Toby Goldston '24 was challenged in all three games at #5 but battled and still came away with a 3-0 sweep (11-8, 11-9, 12-10)
• Ethan Yan '25 dominated the first two games at #6, winning each by 11-5 scores, before closing strong in a tight third game won by a 15-13 scoreline
• Cole Zetterquist '24 (11-1, 11-8, 11-7) won easily at #8 while Morgan Shatzman '25 handed Demetrius Iatridis a 3-0 defeat (11-0, 11-3, 11-5) at #9
• Andrew Doucette '22 dropped just eight total points across the three games as he won easily at #10 in an exhibition match
• Shanay Sanghavi '23 was locked in an epic five-game dual at #1 with Tyler Maguire as Maguire won the first two games 11-6, 11-9 before Sanghavi battled back with 13-11, 11-7 victories, sending the match to a decisive fifth game. In the final game, Maguire bested Sanghavi by a 11-9 margin to account for the lone Camel point in the match

Wesleyan heads into the winter break and will return to action on Saturday, January 15-16 with three matches all at Amherst starting with Franklin & Marshall on Jan. 15.
