Softball Drops Both in Doubleheader at Hamilton

Courtney Collins-Pisano '22 (pictured) hit a leadoff inside-the-park homer in game two, her first collegiate home run

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Wesleyan softball team was swept in a pair of Saturday afternoon road games at Hamilton as the Cardinals lost 13-5 and 10-1, both in five innings to the Continentals.

Highlights Game 1 (L, 5-13 | 5 Innings):
  • After Hamilton took a 2-0 lead, Wesleyan hit back for a five-run second inning as Olivia Adams '23 walked and stole second before Ciara Castillo '23 also walked and Krissy Gately '24 singled up the middle that scored Adams from second and made it 2-1
  • Later in the inning with the game tied, Gately beat a throw to home on a Hannah Docktor '24 grounder to put the Cardinals out in front and Courtney Collins-Pisano '22 scored on the next at-bat as Wesleyan employed a double steal with the junior bolting for home, scoring on the close play at the plate
  • Alexis Campbell '22 finished off the scoring with an RBI single to right
  • The Continentals did not wait long to retake the lead as they put up a four-run inning in the bottom half of the second with the big hit of the inning being a two-run single through the left side from Rasmussen
  • Hamilton tacked on one more in the third and two more in the fourth to make it 9-5 Continentals and the Cardinals' last gasp attempt came in the fifth with Sophia Sciarappa '22 and Adams on third and second, respectively, but a Castillo groundout to second finished the inning with no runs scored for Wesleyan
  • The game then ended in the bottom of the fifth as a decisive four-run inning, three of which were scored with two outs, put the game away for Hamilton in what was the first win of the season for the Continentals
NOTES
  • Collins-Pisano, Sciarappa, Campbell and Gately all produced singles in the loss for Wesleyan
  • Kendall Mancuso '22 and Adams both walked twice
  • Brooklin Williams '23 took the loss for Wesleyan in the circle as she went 3.0 inning with nine runs allowed on seven hits with four walks and two strikeouts
  • Revi Brown '23 came on in relief and went 1.2 innings with four runs (one earned) allowed

Highlights Game 2 (L, 1-10 | 5 Innings):
  • Wesleyan again led early in the second game as Collins-Pisano drilled a ball down the right field line and turned on the jets to score an inside-the-park home run, the first homer of her collegiate career to make it 1-0 Wesleyan early
  • Hamilton, however, reclaimed all momentum with a three-run first inning as Rasmussen doubled to left field to make it 2-1 and a Wesleyan error later allowed another run to cross and the Continentals led 3-1 after one
  • The Continentals' starting pitcher Natalie Beebe made quick work of the Wesleyan lineup as she didn't allow a run after the Collins-Pisano home run while the Hamilton bats put the game away with a six-run fourth that saw the Cardinals commit three errors in the field which led directly to three unearned runs that made it 10-1 which was the ultimate final score in game two
NOTES
  • Collins-Pisano (2-for-3, 1 HR) and Docktor (2-for-3) combined for four of the five Wesleyan hits in game two
  • Brown pitched 4.0 innings and allowed 10 runs (five earned) on eight hits and three walks with one strikeout
  • Wesleyan struggled in the field with seven errors in game two
