WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – In the Cardinals' series and regular season finale, the Wesleyan softball team dropped a 4-1 decision at Williams on Sunday afternoon. Wesleyan finishes the shortened spring season with a 1-12 (1-10 NESCAC West) record while the Ephs head to the NESCAC Championship series next weekend with an unblemished 12-0 (12-0 NESCAC West) mark.
Highlights (L, 4-1):
- Wesleyan plated the game's first run as Courtney Collins-Pisano '22 singled to right in the leadoff spot, moved to second on a Hannah Docktor '24 sacrifice bunt and came around to score on a Sophia Sciarappa '22 RBI single to right
- Williams knotted the score at 1-1 in their first at-bats as Kelly McGuigan touched home from second on a Wesleyan fielding error. Revi Brown '23 did well to escape further damage as the Cardinal pitcher induced a fly out and pop out as Williams left the bases loaded
- Aly Granados scored the go-ahead run in the second as she tripled to right and scored on the play as a throwing error allowed her to come home around third
- Wesleyan had chances to even the score, putting runners in scoring position in both the third and fifth innings but the Ephs' starter Kirstin Mapes bore down and held the Cardinals scoreless
- Williams plated insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings before retiring the Cardinals in-order in the seventh to finish off the victory
