MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Seniors
Johanna Copeland and
Indigo Pellegrini de Paur of the Wesleyan women's lacrosse team were named 2021 Division III All-Americans today, as announced by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).
The All-America honors were a first for both student-athletes as Pellegrini de Paur was named a First Team selection and Copeland earned Second Team praise.
Pellegrini de Paur, a Connecticut native from New Canaan, led Wesleyan's defense this spring with 15 ground balls (2.5/game) and 17 caused turnovers (2.83/game). Additionally, she recorded 19 draw controls and was named an All-NESCAC First Team selection and an IWLCA First Team All-Berkshire Region selection.
Copeland excelled in her abbreviated senior season as she led the team in scoring with 21 goals (3.5/game). The Hanover, N.H. native registered five goals, three times, and totaled at least two goals in five of the team's six games. She was also named an All-NESCAC First Team selection and an IWLCA First Team All-Berkshire Region honoree.
These two seniors played a pivotal role in Wesleyan's success this year in which the team went 3-3 overall and 3-1 in the NESCAC West Division. The Cardinals recorded the best record in the West to qualify for the conference finals for the first time in program history.
