MIDDLETOWN, CT.- The Wesleyan football team saw five of its members honored as 2022 CSC (College Sports Communicators) Academic All-District First Team, as announced by the organization November 22
nd. The teams are chosen by members of CSC and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Honorees selected as All-District advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot.
The All-District First Team members from the Wesleyan football team include: safety
Jack Nally '24, linebacker
Jake Edwards '24, quarterback
Niko Candido '25, and wide receivers
Matt Simco '23 and
Logan Tomlinson '23. To earn a spot on the Academic All-District Team, honorees must have a minimum 3.50 GPA and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
Four Cardinals receive their first career Academic All-District selection, while
Matt Simco earns his 3
rd such honor. Simco has a 3.97 GPA as a double major in economics and physics – he played in all nine games for the Cardinals, bringing in 36 receptions for 527 yards and two touchdowns. Nally is majoring in economics, posting a GPA of 3.74 – the junior made 28 total tackles, had nine pass breakups, and an interception. Edwards owns a 3.84 GPA while majoring in psychology – the linebacker led the teams in tackles with 58, recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, and a fumble recovery. Candido is an undecided major with a GPA of 3.58 – the quarterback led the team in completion percentage at 67.18%, while throwing for 1,235 yards and nine touchdowns. Tomlinson is set to graduate with a double major in economics and psychology with a GPA of 3.79 – the First Team All-NESCAC selection ranked 2
nd in the conference in catches (72), notching four 100-yard receiving games to go along with 11 total touchdowns.
