CLINTON, N.Y. – The Wesleyan women's squash team suffered a 5-4 defeat at the hands of the host Hamilton College, in the First Round of the NESCAC Tournament on Friday night. The Cardinals (6-6) look to win the consolation flight of the bracket on Saturday with scheduled matches against Conn. College and Colby.
The Continentals used four 3-0 sweeps to build an early lead as the Cardinals first got on the board with a 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-9) triumph for
Sydney Kim '22 at #9 over Eleanor Arnold.
Sydney Smith '25 came through at #5 with a 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 14-12) win that required a gutty third set victory to defeat Madison Sakheim.
Needing just one more team point to secure the match, the Continentals got what they needed from Eleanor Bailey at #3 as she defeated
Anika Kewalramani '24 by a 3-1 set score line.
Wesleyan still managed to finish strong with a pair of five-set wins coming from
Emma Smith '22 at #6 over Sydney Soloway.
Emma Smith came roaring back, overcoming a 2-0 set deficit with a 11-9, 11-5, 11-3 triumph to win the match. The fourth Cardinal team point came from
Aashni Parikh '22 at #8 with a 3-2 (1-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7) victory over Eliza Glass.
The Cardinals look to rebound on Saturday with matches set against Conn. College and Colby to decide the winner of the consolation flight.
