MIDDLETOWN, CT- Men's hockey extends their win streak to five with a 5-1 victory over Albertus Magnus Tuesday night at Spurrier-Snyder Rink. Wesleyan dominated from the drop of the puck, building a 3-0 lead over the first period plus, before Albertus Magnus scored their only goal of the contest. Wesleyan would respond with two more goals to get to the final score of 5-1.Wesleyan wins their 5
th straight game and have climbed to 2
nd in the NESCAC standings. They now improve to 10-8-2, while Albertus Magnus drops to 12-7-1.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Wesleyan got the scoring going early, putting one through only six minutes into the 1st period. Kyle Anderson '24 ripped a shot that was turned away with a blocker save. The rebound found the stick of Wiggle Kerbrat '23 who capitalized for a Cardinals' power play goal
- Wesleyan dominated the 1st period in shots on goal 14-7, adding an insurance goal in the final minutes of the period. After some nice passing from Stevie O'Connor '22 and Colin Cobb '23 the puck found Jake Lachance '23 who came in full speed and rocketed a wrist shot past the Falcons goalie to make the score 2-0
- Wesleyan opened the 2nd period the same as the 1st, scoring just three minutes into the period to extend the lead to three. Wesleyan scored their 2nd power play of the night, when Kerbrat found a cutting Owen Sweet '25. Albertus Magnus responded with their first and only goal. Brendan Sjostedt scored off a turnover in Wesleyan's zone cutting the deficit to two
- Emmet Powell '23 lost a Falcons' defender with a swift move setting up a wrist shot that beat the Falcons' goalie glove side to extend the Cardinals' lead back to three
- Wesleyan added yet another power play goal three minutes into the 3rd period to seal the deal. Lachance ripped a shot from straight on that was turned away, but O'Connor was there for the rebound to score goal number five for Wesleyan
