MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The awards continue to roll in for
Sam Peek '22 of the Wesleyan men's basketball team as he was just named the Men's Region 1 Player of the Year by d3hoops.com, as announced on Tuesday morning. Peek makes some history as the first Cardinal in program history to earn a Regional Player of the Year honor while he now qualifies for the D3Hoops.com All-America Team, which will be released on Saturday, March 19.
Peek was Wesleyan's leader in scoring and rebounding in what was the best season in program history in 2021-22. For the season, Peek averaged 17.9 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.4 steals and 30.5 minutes per game in 26 games played (25 starts). He became the first player in program history to earn NESCAC Player of the Year honors while he also joins a select list as one of just five Cardinals in team history to earn All-NESCAC First Team honors.
He scored double figures in 24 of his 26 games played while he ran a streak of 15 straight games with 10+ points from December 9 through February 26. Included in that streak was a span of five straight games where Peek scored 20+ points. His numbers ranked Top 10 in the NESCAC in scoring (4
th), rebounding (8
th), field goal percentage (7
th) and steals (6
th). Peek shot 50.3 percent from the floor and 35.3 percent from three on the season.
