TUCSON, AZ- Kai Marcos '22 came up big for Wesleyan, hitting a two-out, two-run, walk-off triple in the bottom of the 9
th to give the Cardinals the 17-16 win over Macalester. Wesleyan fought back from being down by as much as eight, to secure their 4
th win of the season. The back-and-forth high scoring affair led to a combined 33 runs on 34 hits. Wesleyan improves to 4-4, while Macalester drops to 1-5 in 2022.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- The scoring started early, with Macalester's Matt Odom ripping a 3-run homerun to give them an early lead. That homerun was followed up by two more hits, leading to a 4th first-inning run for Macalester
- Wesleyan used a big 3rd inning to give them their first lead of the game. The Cardinals scored four runs on two hits, capped off by a Kyle Sylvester '22 two-run single to give Wesleyan a 6-5 advantage going into the 4th
- After being shut out in the 4th, the Macalester offense exploded for nine runs on nine hits in the 5th to give them a comfortable eight-run lead in the top half of the inning. Wesleyan responded with three runs on only one hit in the bottom half, benefiting from three hit batsman to cut into the deficit
- The two teams traded runs in the 7th to make the score 15-10. Macalester capitalized on two Wesleyan errors to get their run across, while the Cardinals scored on Sylvester single up the middle that drove home Luke Lasaracina '25 who had doubled to lead off the inning
- Wesleyan's four run 8th inning cut the deficit to just one. Wes Fritch '22 doubled home two, followed by RBI singles by Lasaracina and Ryan Molinari '22.
- Caiden Moore added to the Macalester lead with a homerun in the top of the 9th to go up 16-14. Dylan Judd '22 came in and delivered a pinch-hit single to make it first and second no outs for the Cardinals. After a flyout, Fritch came through with a RBI single through the left side to cut the Macalester lead to one. After a Lasaracina fly out, Kai Marcos stepped up to the plate with two outs and runners on first and second. He came through with a clutch 2-run walk-off triple to give the Cardinals a 17-16 win

- Cardinals score a season-high 17 runs on 15 hits
- Wes Fritch (4-for-5, 5 runs, 3 RBI) had career highs in hits and runs
- Wesleyan walks it off for the 2nd time this season
- Kai Marcos came into the game as a pinch runner in the 8th, before hitting the walk-off triple in the 9th
