Softball Splits on Final Day in Florida, Defeating Knox Before Falling to Loras

Wesleyan beat Knox 10-2 (5 in) and lost to Loras 5-2

LEESBURG, FL- Softball split on their final day playing in Florida Friday, defeating Knox before falling to Loras. Wesleyan started the day strong, making quick work of Knox, winning by a score of 10-2 finishing them off in five innings. They were led by a stellar pitching performance by Revi Brown '23 who only allowed one earned run on four hits to go along with two strikeouts. The Loras game was a pitching duel though 3 ½ innings with the score knotted at one, before Loras exploded for a four-run bottom of the 4th to take a commanding lead which they would hold for the final three innings. Knox drops to 1-7, Loras improves to 11-1, and Wesleyan finishes their trip at 4-6.

HIGHLIGHTS (VS. KNOX 10-2 (5 IN) WIN)
  • Wesleyan's offense got going early in this one, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. After two outs to start the inning, Sophia Sciarappa '22 hit a double to right field, followed by an Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 homerun over the left field fence
  • The Cardinals offense stayed hot in the 2nd. Hannah Docktor '24 singled home a run to begin the scoring. That hit was followed up by a Sciarappa 2-run single, that opened up the lead to 5-1 heading into the 3rd
  • The 3rd inning was more of the same, with the Cardinals scoring four more runs on six hits. Sciarappa continued her impressive game with a 2-run single, followed by a Secaira-Cotto RBI double to left field
  • It was only fitting that Sciarappa was the one that scored to end the game. She scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the 5th to go up eight, ending the game 10-2
NOTES:
  • Sciarappa and Secaira-Cotto combine to go 8-for-8 with three runs and seven RBI
  • Revi Brown picks up their 2nd win of the season (5 IP, 1 ER, 2 K's). Brown also went 3-for-3 with an RBI
  • Most hits (18) in a single game since 2010
HIGHLIGHTS (VS. LORAS 5-2 LOSS)
  • Wesleyan's offense threatened to score in the first two innings but couldn't get on the board leaving a combined three runners on. Loras took advantage of a wild pitch in the bottom half of the 2nd to go up 1-0
  • Krissy Gately '24 got the Cardinals on the board in the 4th, hitting a single to right field to drive in Secaira-Cotto
  • Loras broke the game open in the bottom of the 4th. They went for four runs on only one hit, capitalizing on a pair of Cardinals' errors to take a comfortable 5-1 lead going into the 5th
  • Sciarappa delivered her first home run of the season in the top half of the 5th to cut the Loras lead to just three. Secaira-Cotto followed up the home run with a double, but the Cardinals could not push another run across
