Softball Splits Against Mitchell

MIDDLETOWN,CT- Softball splits against Mitchell this Wednesday, taking game one before falling to the Mariners in extras in game two. Wesleyan took an early lead in game one and didn't look back, winning 6-1 behind a gem from Revi Brown '23 in the circle. In game two it was a pitching duel between Brooklin Williams '23 and Emily Reynolds. The game went into extras tied at one before Mitchell scored four in the top of the 9th to put the game away, 5-3. Wesleyan fought back with two in the bottom half, but it was not enough. Wesleyan splits, moving to 10-12 on the year while Mitchell moves to 13-15.
 
HIGHLIGHTS (GAME 1, 6-1 Win)
  • Wesleyan was able to score in the first inning to take an early lead. Courtney Collins-Pisano '22 started the bottom half of the inning with a walk, eventually coming around on a Darlene De La Cruz '25 RBI single up the middle
  • Mitchell came back in the 3rd to tie it at one. The Mariners drove their only run of the game on a sacrifice fly, recording two hits total in the inning
  • Wesleyan came back in the bottom half of the third with three runs on three hits to retake their lead. Hannah Docktor '24 doubled in the first run of the inning, followed by a Revi Brown two-run single that gave the Cardinals a three-run lead
  • The Cardinals added two more insurance runs in the 4th to grow their lead to five. Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 and De La Cruz hit back-to-back RBI singles for two of Wesleyan's three hits in the inning. Revi Brown shut the door the rest of the way to secure the 6-1 victory

  • Revi Brown (5-4) pitched a gem: 7 IP, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
  • Brown also produced at the plate (1-for-2, 2 RBI)

HIGHLIGHTS (GAME 2, 5-3 LOSS)
  • Wesleyan got out to a good start again in game two, scoring a first inning run on two hits. Secaira-Cotto came through with the RBI double to right center that got the Cardinals on the board first. Mitchell responded with a run of their own in the 2nd to tie it up at one
  • The next five innings was a pitching duel between Brooklin Williams and Mitchell's Emily Reynolds. The two combined to allow zero runs, taking the game into extras tied at one apiece
  • After a scoreless 8th inning, both teams' offenses got going in the 9th. Mitchell finally got to Williams, scoring four runs on five hits to gain an extra-inning advantage. Wesleyan came back, scoring two runs on two hits in the bottom half but it was not enough
 
NOTES:
  • Brooklin Williams pitched 8 innings giving up 1 ER, before giving up four runs in the 9th
  • De La Cruz went 4-for-6 with two runs and two RBI in two games against Mitchell
  • Both teams recorded nine hits
  • Courtney Collins-Pisano stole three bases on the day (14 on the season)
