Baseball Falls to No.24 Roger Williams, 14-6

MIDDLETOWN, CT- Baseball falls to #24 Roger Williams in a non-conference battle Thursday afternoon, 14-6 in eight innings. The teams competed against each other for just the 4th time in their histories, with RWU taking the last two. The nationally ranked Hawks got out to an early 6-0 lead in the 3rd, but Wesleyan chipped away to cut the deficit to just two going into the 7th inning. Roger Williams added eight more runs over the final two innings to put the game away at 14-6. RWU picks up the win to move to 22-3-1, while Wesleyan drops to 15-11 with the loss.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • After two quick innings from both teams' starting pitchers, the bats started to get going. RWU struck first in the top of the 3rd, scoring three runs on three hits. The big hit of the inning came from Tyler Cedeno who hit a 3-run home run over the left field fence to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage
  • RWU would keep their bats going in the 4th, pushing across three more runs. They capitalized on four Wesleyan walks in the inning, recording only one hit and leaving two runners on. The Cardinals came back in the bottom half of the inning with their first runs. Adam Geibel '22 doubled home Dylan Judd '22 who opened the inning with a double. Then back-to-back RBI-singles from Ryan Molinari '22 and Wes Fritch '22 cut the RWU lead to just three
  • Fritch came through again in the 6th, driving in Molinari with an RBI-double to make the score 6-4. Roger Williams was quick to respond in the next half-inning with four more runs thanks to Cedeno's grand slam, his 2nd home run of the game
  • Judd hit a home run of his own in the 7th, trimming the lead to five. RWU came back with four more runs on two hits and two errors to put the game away. Wesleyan salvaged a run in the 8th on a Kyle Sylvester '22 single to center to reach the final score of 14-6
 
NOTES:
  • Wes Fritch (3-for-4, 2 RBI) and Dylan Judd (3-for-5, 2 runs, 1 HR) both had 3-hit nights
  • Judd hit his team-leading 4th home run of the year
  • Ryan Molinari (2-for-4, 1 run, 1 RBI) was the other Cardinal with a multi-hit game
  • Wesleyan outhit RWU 11-9

Wesleyan will return to Dresser Diamond Saturday April 23rd for a doubleheader against Bates at 1 and 4pm.
