Amherst Mounts Late Comeback to Down Softball, 3-2

AMHERST, MA- Softball can't hold onto their lead, giving up three runs in the bottom of the 7th to fall to Amherst in Friday afternoon's NESCAC showdown. The Cardinals found themselves enjoying a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 5th after some nice hitting, before the Mammoths came back with their only three runs in the bottom of the 7th to steal one in their final home game of the season. Wesleyan drops to 13-16 (4-6 NESCAC) with the loss, while Amherst improves to 19-7 (7-3 NESCAC).

HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Isabella Secaira-Cotto '25 was impressive in the circle through the first four innings, keeping the Mammoths without a hit. Amherst only saw one runner reach base on an error. Secaira-Cotto did it by forcing the Amherst hitters to put it in play, creating a handful of ground balls to go with her single strikeout through 4 innings
  • Wesleyan pushed across their only runs of the game in the 5th. Courtney Collins-Pisano '22 delivered a double over the center fielder's head to drive in Bella Tassone '24 who had pinch ran for Kendall Mancuso '22 who singled to lead off the inning. Two batters later Sophia Sciarappa '22 came up and came through with a RBI-double down the left field line to extend the lead to two
  • Secaira-Cotto pitched another perfect inning in the 5th. She followed that up by giving up her only hit to that point in the 6th, but held the Mammoths without a run going into the final innings. Amherst finally got to her in the final frame, scoring three runs on a 3-run walk-off by Randi Finkelstein
