No. 26 Men’s Tennis Drops NESCAC Match Against No. 6 Williams, 7-2

MIDDLETOWN, CT - No. 26 men's tennis dropped their match against No. 6 Williams Sunday morning, 7-2. The two wins for the Cardinals came from Peter Anker '22 and Zach Lieb '22, who were each able to pull out thrilling three set victories in singles play. Wesleyan now drops to 3-6 (2-3 NESCAC), dropping their last three matches against NESCAC competition after starting 2-0. No. 6 Williams continues their impressive start to the season with their third straight NESCAC win (6-1, 3-0 NESCAC).

Wesleyan picked up their first point point of the match against Williams by virtue of an Anker victory in singles. Anker defeated Williams' Chase Cohen 1-6, 6-4, [11-9] at #1 to put Wesleyan on the board. Lieb was able to hold off Matt Kandel in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 12-10. In other singles action, Karan Amin was able to take down Wesleyan's Ben Mitchell '24 6-2, 6-2 at #3 and Max Lee '22 was defeated by Michael Medvedev 6-2, 6-1 at #5. Lastly at #6, Max Lustgarten '25 lost to Jack Truwit 6-4, 6-1.

In doubles play, Williams continued their stellar play to take the final three points of the match. First, Anker and Mitchell fell to Matt Kandel and Cohen 8-0 at #1. The Ephs' Shawn Berdia and Amin were then able to take down Lieb and Harry Portnoy '24 8-5 in a fairly competitive match at #2. To round of the scoring, Medvedev and Truwit defeated Lustgarten and Clay Gaieski '23 8-2 at #3 to secure Williams' 7th point of the match.

Wesleyan will return to the court Saturday April 9th, where they will compete against Tufts in another NESCAC matchup.
