MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan men's basketball team continued to roll, as the Cardinals shot a season-high 55.7 percent from the floor in a 83-63 victory over Mitchell on Wednesday night from Silloway Gymnasium. The Cardinals (9-5) are now undefeated in their last seven games while improving to 5-0 all-time against the Mariners (10-3).
Makes came from all over the floor for Wesleyan as the team went 34-for-61 from the floor including a scintillating 18-for-29 (62.1 percent) showing in the second half. The Cardinals made nine three-pointers, matching a season-high, while the team totaled 23 assists on 34 made field goals, registering another new season-high in the process.
Taking advantage of some easy looks along the interior, Wesleyan scored 13 points in a span of just over four minutes to establish a double-digit lead before the midway point of the first half.

Shane Regan '25 followed with the Cardinals' fourth three-pointer of the past five-plus minutes before
Jared Langs '25 converted a putback layup that made it 26-11 Cardinals. Wesleyan's lead grew to as many as 16 points in the half before ultimately leading 39-26 at the half with Johnson cutting in for a floater with five seconds showing on the clock.
The second half was more of the same as the Cardinals quickly went up 19 which later stretched to a 26-point advantage as an 11-0 Wesleyan run made it 63-37 with 10:04 remaining. Maccoux scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half alone while the Cardinals emptied their bench late and got some good minutes from
Steven Johnson '23 (six points in four minutes) and saw
Dylan Ward '24 hit a spinning floater in the closing minute for his first career points.
Preston Maccoux '23 getting open underneath for a layup
Johnson led the charge with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting with six assists and five rebounds. Maccoux tallied 17 points (6-12 FG, 3-7 3FG) with six rebounds and five assists.
Gabe Ravetz '23 finished with 14 points while Langs had seven points and five rebounds and
Shackylle Dezonie '23 went for five points and nine rebounds.
Leading the Mariners was Mikey Buscetto who finished with 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Alfonzo Stokes added 14 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
Wesleyan resumes NESCAC play on Sunday as two of the three remaining unbeatens in league play clash with the Cardinals set to play host to Connecticut College at 2:00 PM.
