Stoj, Cardinals hold No. 13 Williams to a draw

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team was firing on all cylinders this afternoon, going nearly stat-for-stat with No. 13 ranked Williams College in a 1-1 NESCAC draw from Cole Field. Stefanie Stoj '26 lead the team with the opening tally.

It was Lina Rodriguez '24 who had the first solid shot on goal for the Cardinals (6-3-3, 3-2-3 NESCAC), forcing the Ephs to make a save after putting two shots on goalkeeper Molly Brumbach '26 in the first several minutes of play. While the Ephs (7-2-3, 4-1-2 NESCAC) outshot the Cardinals through the first 45 minutes 7-6, it was the Cardinals who would open the scoring with a little over a minute remaining in the first half.

Gaining possession at the midfield, Audrey Lavey '23 found a free Stoj out on the right side, setting up the Cardinals first and only goal of the game. Taking a handful of steps inside the box, Stoj took the shot on a tight angle and sent the ball behind Margaret Huelin at 43:18.

While the Cardinals defense held a solid wall in front of Brumbach for much of the game, at 52:45 Bria Abbiati tied up the game as the Ephs carried the ball down the right line and crossed to Abbiati inside the box. The Cardinals cleared two more shots than the Ephs in the second half, posting a 8-6 differential to end the game in a 1-1 draw.

Allowing only one goal, Brumbach made five saves, facing six shots on goal. Huelin and Ana Bozzi-Mackay combined for five saves for the Ephs as they also faced six shots from the Cardinals.

The Cardinals return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 17, when they host Western Connecticut State University in non-conference action beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Smith Field.
