Women’s Soccer Scores Four in Shutout Win over Bates

LEWISTON, Me. – The Wesleyan women's soccer team posted three goals and got a helping hand from opponent Bates College early in the first half on goal number two before shutting the Bobcats down in a 4-0 NESCAC victory on Sunday afternoon from Russell Street Field.

Lina Rodriguez '24 scored the opening tally at 8:51 as the Cardinals (6-3-2 overall, 3-2-2 NESCAC) earned the advance inside the Bobcats' zone on a throw in. Stefanie Stoj '26 landed a stopped shot on goal, but Bobcats (2-6-3 overall, 1-5-1 NESCAC) goalkeeper Ruby Reimann was unable to keep hold of the ball with Rodriguez jumping in for the rebound on the unattended goal.

Less than a minute after Rodriguez's goal the Bobcats attempted to clear the zone but Saige Rovero '24 kept the Cardinals possession inside, booting the ball to Bobcats defender Kylie Musante. Musante's header flew over Reimann to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

The Cardinals offense posted nine shots through the second half of play, but it was the final four minutes of regulation that saw the team double the goals. At 86:04 Maria Utz '27, out on the right side, found Audrey Lavey '23 above the box. Lavey danced around a Bobcats defender before taking a high, right-foot shot into the back corner for goal three.

The Cardinals kept control right off the kickoff after Lavey's goal, advancing down low as Riley Buehler '26 found herself unguarded at the top of the goal and took a direct shot that tipped off Reimann's fingers for the final goal of the afternoon.

Cardinals goalkeeper Molly Brumbach '26 made three saves on seven shots faced as the Cardinals outshot the Bobcats 18-7. This is Brumbach's second shutout of the season. Reimann made six saves for the Bobcats.

The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14, when they head to Williams College for a 12 p.m. NESCAC matchup.
