Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s hockey falls 2-1 to No. 15 Endicott

MIDDLETOWN, CT. – Shannon Burke '25 led the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team with a goal and nine draw wins off the face-off as the Wesleyan women's ice hockey team fell In non-conference regulation to No. 15 ranked Endicott College on Saturday evening from Spurrier-Snyder Arena.

Down two goals with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Burke shoved the puck in behind Gulls (7-4-0 overall) goaltender Casey Moritz in what looked to be a no-goal call by the officiating but was granted to the Cardinals (2-3-0 overall, 1-1-0 NESCAC) to cut the score in half. It was Carolina Mezias '25 that was able to bring the puck into the attack zone for the Cardinals, taking her initial shot from just inside the blue line before gaining her own rebound for a second attempt on Moritz. Burke charged in as Mezias was knocked to the ice and shoved Mezias' second rebound under Moritz for the goal tally.

Samantha Fantasia net two goals for the Gulls in the second period just six minutes apart, the first opening the scoring for the game at 13:25 as she caught a pass from outside the crease and put it back at the post. Fantasia struck again at 19:23 unassisted as she scored on a breakaway, beating Jenna Stevens in the footrace back to Rei Halloran '23.

Brigitte Goeler-Slough '23 led the Cardinals with three shots on goal while Burke, Caroline Kee '26, and Jenna Rekoske '24 led off the face-off. Burke won nine, Kee with eight, and Rekoske with six wins on the draw.

Halloran finished the evening with 22 saves in net for the Cardinals. Moritz finished with 20 saves for the Gulls.

The Cardinals return to action on Sunday, Dec. 3, when they host Worcester State at Spurrier-Snyder Arena beginning at 4 p.m.
