MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's squash team made quick work of Connecticut College, dispatching the Camels in a 9-0 win from the Rosenbaum Squash Center on Wednesday night. The Cardinals (4-3) earn their 30
th consecutive win against Conn. dating back to the 2007-08 season.
The Cardinals won six of the nine matches in straight sets, with the other three all being decided in four sets.
Mira Bakshi '26 dropped just 11 total points in a 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 win at #3 over Hannah Preston while
Jaclyn Dichter '26 lost just 13 points in a 11-3, 11-3, 11-7 triumph over Ainsley Ellison at #4.
Also earning 3-0 sweeps was
Laila Kewalramani '24 at #6 (11-5, 11-5, 11-6) over Miranda Medina,
Leandra Sze '26 at #7 over Gwyneth Perez-Perez (11-3, 11-8, 11-4),
Julissa Mota '26 over Crystal Dixon at #8 (11-6, 11-4, 11-6), and
Marangela James '24 at #9 over Madeleine Lawrence (11-3, 11-8, 12-10).
Earning four-set wins was
Avika Pande '26 at #1,
Aanya Anand '26 at #2, and
Penelope Furnas '27 at #4. Pande's match against Rachel Matamoros was the longest of the night, lasting over 30 minutes, as Pande ultimately pulled out a 11-7, 13-11, 10-12, 11-2 win. Anand defeated Mariam Anwar 11-5, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4 at #2 while Furnas triumphed at #4 over Isabel Schumacher (6-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-8).
Wesleyan enjoys a month off, as the Cardinals' next match is slated for Saturday, January 6, 2024 with a 2 PM start at Bowdoin.
