Four First Place Finishes Highlights Women’s Track & Field in Season-Opening Winter Invite

Cardinals earn wins in the 400m, 800m, one mile, and pole vault events

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan women's track & field team opened the 2023-24 season at home with the Wesleyan Winter Invite on Saturday from the Bacon Field House. The Cardinals racked up four first place finishes on the day in the competition that did not feature team scoring. The Cardinals went one-two in the 400m dash, with Sophia Mack '26 recording a win with a personal-best time of 1:01.06. She finished just ahead of Kate Hausladen '23 who recorded a time of 1:02.59 to take the second place finish.
 
Stephanie Ager '26 earned a first place finish in the one mile, crossing the line in a personal-best time of 5:14.64 to lead the field of 16 runners. Finishing behind Ager was Margaret Stevens '27 (5:22.93) in second place, while Alexandra Simon '27 (5:25.51) was third, and Nadia Lim '26 (5:33.54) finished fourth.
 
Winning the pole vault with a mark of 3.00m was Fiona Carroll '25. Virginia Lustenberger '26 topped the field in the 800m with her time of 2:30.74.
 
Juliette Sullivan '27 made waves in her collegiate debut, recording a time of 7.91 seconds in the 60m dash finals, placing second overall. She later claimed another runner-up finish, this time in the 200m with a time of 26.46 seconds.
 
Naomi McGadney '27 earned a spot alongside Sullivan in the 60m dash finals, recording a time of 8.33 seconds in the preliminaries which was eighth-best. Then in the final, she clocked in at 8.25 seconds, finishing in fifth place overall. In the field events, McGadney posted a mark of 4.75m in the long jump to finish in sixth place.
 
Emilia Thornton '24 picked up a fourth place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 11.27m. Claire Edwards '24 was seventh-best in the shot put with a throw of 9.52m. Imagen Walters '26 was 10th-best in the 200m, crossing the line in 28.26 seconds.
 
Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday, January 13 with the Little Three Championship from the Bacon Field House.
