Men’s Hockey Dealt 4-0 Defeat at Colby

WATERVILLE, Me. – The Wesleyan men's hockey team was handed a 4-0 loss at the hands of Colby on Saturday afternoon. This marks the first regulation defeat in NESCAC play this season for the Cardinals (13-6-3, 9-4-3 NESCAC) while the Mules (11-9-2, 9-6-1 NESCAC) snap a three-game losing streak.

Colby was first to score in this one as John McElaney knocked in a loose puck after Jake Macdonald fired a wrist shot with power in a rush up-ice. The goal came nearly midway through the first period.

Wesleyan outshot Colby in every period, but were denied time and time again by Colby's Andy Beran in net who finished with a 28-save shutout.

The scoreless second period was highlighted by a spectacular season by Beran who kept the Cardinals without a goal.

Colby put the game away in the third period with McElaney tallying his second of the game just 45 seconds into the third. Ryan Doolin then made it 3-0 with seven minutes left and with Wesleyan pulling Marc Smith '24 with just under five minutes left, the Mules scored on the empty net to finish off a 4-0 win.

Wesleyan is back in action next weekend with a home-and-home with league-leading Trinity. The Cardinals start in Hartford on Friday at 7:30 PM before hosting the Bantams on Saturday for Senior Day at 3 PM.
