Baseball Downed by Union, 11-3

AMSTERDAM, NY. – The Wesleyan baseball team competed in their final out-of-state game of the regular season Tuesday night, falling to Union by a score of 11-3. The Cardinals fell behind quickly, giving up the first six runs of the contests through three innings before adding their first run in the top of the 4th. Union controlled the game the rest of the way to take home the eight-run victory. Union improves to 13-17, while the Cardinals drop to 12-15.
 
HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Union jumped out to a quick lead in this one, starting with a two-hit, two-run first inning. They followed that up with another run in the 2nd on a pair of hits, and three more on four hits in the 3rd to take a commanding 6-0 advantage through three innings of play
  • Wesleyan got on the board in the top of the 4th. Luke LaSaracina '25 and Dylan Judd '22 opened the inning with singles, before a ground out into a double play scored LaSaracina to make the score 6-1. Union was quick to respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a first and third situation where both managed to move up a base safely
  • Union used five hits to add four more in the 6th, extending their lead out to 11-1. Wesleyan added one more in the 8th as Ethan Diaz '25 worked his way around the bases after a walk, eventually scoring on a wild pitch to make it 11-2. The Cardinals had one more chance in the final frame, adding another run on a fielding error, but Union's pitching closed it out and the Cards fell by a score of 11-3
 
NOTES:
  • Judd (2-for-3, BB) was the only Cardinal with multiple hits on the evening, his 5th such game of the season. He also pitched in this one, completing a scoreless inning in relief (1 IP, H, 0 ER)
  • Wesleyan was outhit 19-6. The 19 hits given up is the 3rd most hits the Cards have given up in a game this season
  • Emerson Rabow '25 collect his first extra base hit of the season
