AMSTERDAM, NY. – The Wesleyan baseball team competed in their final out-of-state game of the regular season Tuesday night, falling to Union by a score of 11-3. The Cardinals fell behind quickly, giving up the first six runs of the contests through three innings before adding their first run in the top of the 4
th. Union controlled the game the rest of the way to take home the eight-run victory. Union improves to 13-17, while the Cardinals drop to 12-15.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Union jumped out to a quick lead in this one, starting with a two-hit, two-run first inning. They followed that up with another run in the 2nd on a pair of hits, and three more on four hits in the 3rd to take a commanding 6-0 advantage through three innings of play
- Wesleyan got on the board in the top of the 4th. Luke LaSaracina '25 and Dylan Judd '22 opened the inning with singles, before a ground out into a double play scored LaSaracina to make the score 6-1. Union was quick to respond with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a first and third situation where both managed to move up a base safely
- Union used five hits to add four more in the 6th, extending their lead out to 11-1. Wesleyan added one more in the 8th as Ethan Diaz '25 worked his way around the bases after a walk, eventually scoring on a wild pitch to make it 11-2. The Cardinals had one more chance in the final frame, adding another run on a fielding error, but Union's pitching closed it out and the Cards fell by a score of 11-3
NOTES:
- Judd (2-for-3, BB) was the only Cardinal with multiple hits on the evening, his 5th such game of the season. He also pitched in this one, completing a scoreless inning in relief (1 IP, H, 0 ER)
- Wesleyan was outhit 19-6. The 19 hits given up is the 3rd most hits the Cards have given up in a game this season
- Emerson Rabow '25 collect his first extra base hit of the season
