LEWISTON, Me. – The No. 18 ranked Wesleyan men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Bates on Saturday afternoon. Wesleyan (6-7, 2-5 NESCAC) has lost four straight while the Bobcats (5-7, 2-5 NESCAC) earn their first win over the Cardinals since 2015.
Wesleyan took an early 1-0 lead with
Max Lustgarten '25 and
Tai MacDonald '26 taking care of Teddy Koide and Nicholas Forester with an 8-3 win at #3. However, the Bobcats rebounded with a pair of tightly contested victories at #1 and #2 to take a 2-1 lead into singles.
Bates followed the momentum at the end of doubles with convincing wins at #4 and #6 and the match was clinched at #2 with Alexander Gujarathi defeating
Ben Mitchell (6-1, 7-6).
Wesleyan managed to take a pair of singles matches with
Chase Kasday '26 defeating Teddy Koide at #5 (7-5, 7-5) while
Harry Collomb '26 won at #3 over Leo Kupferman (0-6, 6-3, 10-8).
The Cardinals are back at home for two NESCAC matches next weekend, with Wesleyan hosting Hamilton on Saturday and Amherst on Sunday.
