MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Graduate linebacker
Jake Edwards '24 of the Wesleyan football team earned NESCAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This marks Edwards' second career NESCAC POW honor and the second straight week a Cardinal has received the league's DPOW award.
Edwards was the overtime hero last Saturday as the graduate recovered a strip sack fumble and sprinted 88 yards down the field for a walk-off overtime defensive touchdown as the Cardinals defeated Colby 23-17 in overtime. The walk-off score is the second touchdown of Edwards' career. The linebacker added six tackles and a quarterback hurry to his stat totals against the Mules.
Wesleyan (4-1) looks to continue its two-game win streak on Saturday with a trip to Bowdoin on-deck.
