Box Score MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Facing the No. 4 ranked team in the country who hasn't lost a match all season, the Wesleyan volleyball team put in their best effort but were swept by the Engineers (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) on Thursday night from Silloway Gymnasium. Wesleyan (12-9) loses their fourth match while MIT (26-0) remains unbeaten in 2024.
 
MIT went up 6-2 in the first set and never looked back, leading by at least five points for the majority of play in the first stanza. The Engineers hit .333 with 14 kills on 36 attempts to set the tone early.
 
The second set saw Wesleyan jump out to a 9-6 lead with Ali Landa '26 playing a big role, landing a kill and block assist in the early going. The Cardinals continued to hold an advantage at 14-12, but the Engineers seized control, using an 8-0 run to suddenly hold a 20-14 lead. Wesleyan cut the deficit down to four points twice in the late stages, but MIT closed out the set with three unanswered points to claim another 25-19 win.
 
MIT used a 5-1 run early in the third set and carried on leading wire-to-wire to seal the three-set sweep. The Cardinals would only get to within two points of the Engineers for the remainder of play and MIT finished the match with a 25-20 triumph.

Siena Steines '28 led the Cardinals with eight kills and eight digs. Michelle Jorba '25 hit .385 with six kills on 13 attempts. Bianca Gonya '25 finished with five kills (.364 attack percentage) and seven total blocks (two solo). Landa totaled 20 assists, eight digs, and two kills.
 
Wesleyan hits the road for the final weekend of regular season play, starting with a Friday night match at Tufts set for a 7 PM start.
