MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Wesleyan volleyball team completed an undefeated NESCAC home weekend, defeating Conn. College in a three-set sweep (25-20, 25-21, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon from Silloway Gymnasium. Wesleyan (9-5, 3-1 NESCAC) are winners of five of their last six matches while the Camels (9-5, 0-4 NESCAC) remain winless in league play.
 
Wesleyan's attack improved as the match went along, as the Cardinals hit .200 in the first set compared to .250 in the second set, culminating in the third set that saw Wesleyan hit .300 with 19 kills and just four errors in 50 attempts. The Cardinals also racked up 73 digs, which is easily their most in a three-set match all season and the second-highest total for the team in any of their 14 matches this season.
 
Michelle Jorba '25 was the lone Cardinal to produce double-digit kills as she finished with 10 while hitting .381. Morgan Mattson '28 finished with nine kills and 12 digs. Fiona LaCamera '27 led the middle hitters with six kills, hitting .444 for the match. Bianca Gonya '25 totaled five kills and five total blocks. Ali Landa '26 was the only setter used for Wesleyan and she responded with one of her best all-around matches this season with a season-high 32 assists, four kills, four total blocks, and nine digs. Defensively, Adrienne Nguyen '28 led the way with 16 digs while Elliana Moreno '27 had 14.
 
The Cardinals used an early 9-1 run to jump out to a 10-4 first set lead. The Camels cut the deficit back down to two points, but that was as close as they'd get for the remainder of the stanza. Wesleyan led 20-17 before a late 4-0 run gave the Cardinals plenty of set point opportunities before ultimately finishing a 25-20 win. Sophie Corbeil '28 recorded kills on three of the final five points won by Wesleyan in the set.
 
Conn was the better side at the start of the second set, leading 5-2 and later by a 10-5 margin. Wesleyan's fight back didn't take long as a 4-0 unanswered run tied the score at 11 apiece. The middle stage of the set was back-and-forth with neither side leading by more than two points before another late set run saw Wesleyan win four unanswered points to take control with a 24-19 lead. The Camels staved off two set points, but Wesleyan finished off a 25-21 win on a Gonya kill.
 
The third set saw Wesleyan take their largest lead of the game in any set, holding a 12-4 advantage, before Conn won seven unanswered to trail 12-11. It was back-and-forth in the middle stage of the set before the Cardinals leaned on Jorba down the stretch, as the senior outside hitter ignited a 4-0 run to give Wesleyan a four-point lead they wouldn't relinquish as the Cardinals took the set and the match, 25-20.
 
Wesleyan is back at home next weekend with a pair of NESCAC matches starting with Hamilton at 7 PM on Friday.
