MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Wesleyan women's squash team wraps for the holiday break with a near perfect record through the first five games of the season as they were quick to finish off Connecticut College, 9-0, on Wednesday evening for their fourth match sweep in a row from the Rosenbaum Squash Center.
The Cardinals kept their matches to 25 minutes or less against the Camels as they were led by
Portia Pliam '25 in the #8 slot. Taking only 10 minutes to pick up the first win of the evening, Pliam went 3-0 against Angelise Ramirez with 11-0, 11-1, 11-1 game wins. Pliam leads the team with a perfect record through five games, recording five, 3-0 victories.
Leandra Sze '26 and
Sydney Smith '25 were close on Pliam's heels with 11-minute match wins. At #7, Sze swept Natalie Drew as she claimed 11-2, 11-2, 11-0 final tallies. Smith went 3-0 over Magnolia Strouse, going 11-0, 11-3, 11-5.
The Cardinals swept the Camels 3-0 at #1, #3, #4, #5, and #6.
Avika Pande '26 at #2 was forced to a third set after a two-game lead saw her fall to Isabel Shumacher in game three, walking away with a 3-1 victory going 11-2, 11-5, 7-11, 11-7.
The Cardinals return in the new year when they host Bowdoin in NESCAC action on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 10 a.m.
