PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The No. 21 nationally ranked Wesleyan women's squash team defeated Hamilton, 7-2, in the quarterfinal round of CSA Division Team Championship Walker Cup (C Division) on Friday night from the Arlen Specter US Squash Center. The Cardinals (10-8), who are competing as the top seed in the Walker Cup, advance to the semifinal round where they will face No. 25 St. Lawrence (10-9) on Saturday.
Wesleyan dominated the Continentals to the tone of all seven wins coming via 3-0 sweeps, six of which coming in matches that lasted less than 20 minutes. The Cardinals earned the seven wins in the #3 through #9 positions in the lineup while
Mira Bakshi '26 and
Avika Pande '26 were defeated in close four-set battles at #1 and #2, respectively.
Penelope Furnas '27 won a relatively tight match at the #3 position, defeating Zoe Reinert of Hamilton by a score of 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.
Aanya Anand '26 battled for a 12-10 first set win at #4 over Lily Spencer and proceeded to roll with 11-5 wins in the following two sets.
Jaclyn Dichter '26 earned her team-leading 12
th win of the season, taking down Brooke Hoffman at #5 in a 11-5, 11-2, 11-5 triumph.
Leandra Sze '26 moved to 11-5 on the season in a 11-2, 11-1, 11-6 win at #6 over Chloe Lance.
Laila Kewalramani '24 recorded her 10
th win of 2023-24 in a 11-0, 11-5, 11-6 triumph at #7, defeating Chiara Nadel.
Portia Pliam '25 is now 8-3 on the season, losing the fewest points of any Cardinal on the evening, as she took down Lamia Karabegovic 11-1, 11-4, 11-1 at #8.
Marangela James '24 finished off the Cardinal win at #9, defeating Kathryn Swords in a 11-4, 11-2, 11-3 victory.
Wesleyan advances to face the Saints on Saturday in the semifinal round. Wesleyan last played St. Lawrence in the 2021-22 season, falling to SLU 6-3 in the regular season and 9-0 in the 2022 Walker Cup held in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
