PHILADEPHIA, PA. – The Wesleyan women's squash team will advance to the Walker Cup finals on Sunday afternoon after downing No. 25 St. Lawrence University, 5-4, in the semifinal round on Saturday afternoon from the Arlen Spector US Squash Center.
RESULTS
For just the third time in program history, the Cardinals will play for the Walker Cup title, the C Division of the College Squash Association's Divisional Team Championships. The Cardinals have played in the Walker Cup 16 times total, but have only reached the finals twice, once in 2012 and once in 2013.
The Cardinals will face No. 22 Franklin & Marshall College on Sunday, Feb. 18, for the Walker Cup title at 9 a.m.
At No. 2,
Avika Pande '26 defeated Ulrikke Bore Ribesen in a 3-1 match win, falling in the second game 11-7, but won games one, three, and four, 11-2, 16-14, and 11-6.
Penelope Furnas '27 at No. 3 finished Margaret Fleischner in five games with a 3-2 final match win. Fleischner took game one 11-6 before Furnas came back and won games two and three 11-7 and 11-5. Game four went to Fleischner 16-14, but Furnas finished the match off with a 11-5 victory.
Jaclyn Dichter '26 swept Petra DeRose 3-0 in the No. 5 spot, going 11-9, 11-6, and 11-9.
Laila Kewalramani '27 swept at No. 7, defeating Ksenia Merkulova 3-0. Kewalramani won her games, 11-3, 11-8, 11-5.
In the No. 8 spot,
Portia Pliam '25 had the final sweep for the Cardinals, downing Xitlali Zuniga 3-0 with 11-7, 11-9, and 12-10 game wins.
