Cardinals clear Southwestern in 9-0 ruling

GEORGETOWN, TX – Undefeated in Spring Break action and undefeated through the first five games of the season, the Wesleyan women's tennis team continued their opening domination as they swept Southwestern University, 9-0, on Friday morning.

Lane Durkin '27 and Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 kicked off the morning for the Cardinals with a 8-2 doubles victory as the No. 3 pairing, defeating Daryl Locke and Kimberly Duncan. Caitlyn Ferrante '24 and Sarah Youngberg '26 picked up point number two as the No. 1 pairing with a 8-2 win over Mary Young and Lydia Lee. Leila Epstein '26 and Jackie Soloveychik '27 picked up the third point of the doubles play sweep, defeating Sydney Wahl and Erika Synoski, 8-4.

Durkin made light work of Synoski at No. 4, coming away with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win. Epstein was next, beating Locke in a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Going 6-1, 6-3, Mohsen-Breen finished off Duncan at No. 5. In the No. 3 spot, Soloveychik defeated Wahl, going 6-3, 6-2. Young gave Ferrante a bit of a challenge at No. 1 in the second set, but Ferrante came away with both sets for a 6-1, 6-4 match win. Alexandra Burnett '27 won her first singles match of the spring season since joining the Cardinals, going three sets against Valeria Garcia at No. 6. Garcia won the first set 6-4, but Burnett was up for the challenge and took set two 6-3 before coming away with a final 11-9 third set victory as the final point for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals conclude their time in Texas on Saturday, March 16, when they face off against No. 16 Trinity (Texas) at 11 a.m. in San Antonio.
