DUDLEY, Mass. – The Wesleyan baseball team suffered a 7-3 defeat at Nichols on Wednesday night in the final game of the regular season for the Cardinals. Wesleyan (21-11) has lost four straight while the Bison (29-9) have won eight straight and are 16-3 at home this season.
Nichols jumped out to a sizable lead, scoring three runs in both the 1
st and 2
nd innings to lead 6-0 after two innings. The Cardinals loaded the bases with two out in the 3
rd but couldn't push any runs across as Jaden Mwangi got a strikeout to escape without damage.
Wesleyan put together a string of hits, all with two outs, in the 4
th inning as
Jake Acker '27 singled to center, followed by a bunt single from
Matt Halas '24.
Christian Boudreau '25 drove in the first run of the game for the Cardinals on an RBI single through the right side.
Ernie Little '26 kept the inning alive with a bunt single, the fourth straight batter to single, but the inning again ended with the bases loaded on a
Cole Torino '24 groundout.
The Cardinals scored another run in the 5
th, but Wesleyan had the bases loaded with no outs and only managed one run as three straight outs finished the inning with Nichols leading 6-2.
The two sides traded runs in the bottom of 5
th and top of 6
th as it was 7-3 Bison, which proved more than enough as Nichols reliever Patrick Doyle allowed just one hit with no walks in his four innings of work between the 6
th and 9
th innings.
Boudreau led the Cardinal lineup with a 3-for-4 outing with one double, 1 RBI, and one run scored. Little went 1-for-3 with two steals to give him 29 stolen bases for the season.
Seven pitchers got into the game for Wesleyan, five of which threw a scoreless inning in relief.

Wesleyan heads into postseason play with a showdown at Colby, the #1 seed and winner of the NESCAC East Division. The best-of-3 series begins with a Saturday doubleheader starting at Noon. If necessary, game 3 of the series is Sunday at 11 AM.
