MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The top-seeded Wesleyan women's tennis team eased past #8 seed Hamilton, 5-0, at home on Friday afternoon in the NESCAC Quarterfinal round. The Cardinals (16-0) remain unbeaten this season and advance to the NESCAC Semifinal round for the fifth straight season where they will meet #4 seed Williams on Saturday at 1 PM from Amherst College.
Wesleyan improves to 22-1 all-time against the Continentals, having won the last 21 consecutive meetings dating back to 2005. The four-time defending NESCAC Champions are back in the Semifinal round for the fifth straight season dating back to 2018.
The Cardinals captured all three doubles points in under 30 minutes, dropping just one total game between the three matches.
Lane Durkin '27 and
Renna Mohsen-Breen '25 knocked off Grace Qian and Samantha Rainero 8-0 at #3 while
Caitlyn Ferrante '24 and
Sarah Youngberg '26 defeated Hannah Apsey and Stephanie Pratt 8-0 at #1. Finishing just a few minutes later,
Leila Epstein '26 and
Jackie Soloveychik '27 closed out a 8-1 victory over Priyanka Challapalli and Hannah Walpole at #2.
Singles play mirrored doubles as Youngberg made it 4-0 Wesleyan with a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at #2 over Challapalli while Soloveychik won the clinching point at #4, defeating Walpole 6-1, 6-0. The Cardinals were leading on three of the remaining four singles courts, with Epstein leading 6-0, 4-1 at #3 while Mohsen-Breen was up a set (6-1, 2-1) at #6 and Durkin led 5-3 in the first set at #5.
Wesleyan is back in action on Saturday in the Semifinal round against their Little 3 rival Williams. This will be just the second postseason meeting between the two teams and first since 2016. First serve is set for 1 PM from Amherst.Â
