MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Facing off against one of the top teams in the nation, the #6 seed Wesleyan men's tennis team was dealt a 5-0 defeat against #3 seed and No. 9 nationally ranked Tufts in the NESCAC Quarterfinal on Friday morning from the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts. The Cardinals' 2023-24 season comes to an end with the team finishing with a mark of 6-11.
Wesleyan was swept in the doubles portion, as
JT Bilski '26 and
Ben Mitchell '24 lost 8-4 at #1 to Alex Ganchev and Vuk Vuksanovic while
Chase Kasday '26 and
Harry Portnoy '24 were dealt a loss by the same score at #3 by Corey Marley and Sacha Maes. The Cardinals nearly pulled out a win at #2 doubles but the team of
Harry Collomb '26 and
Max Lustgarten '25 lost in a tiebreaker 8-7 (7-1) to Derin Acaroglu and Lachie Macintosh.
In singles play, the Cardinals won the opening set on two courts and were in a tiebreaker on another court, but the Jumbos pulled out convincing wins at #3 and #2 to clinch the match. Bilski won the opening set 6-2 at #1 over Vuksanovic while
Max Litton '26 won 6-1 in his opening set at #4 against Acaroglu. Lustgarten was in a tiebreaker in the first set against Ganchev at #5.
