SCRANTON, Pa. – The Wesleyan volleyball team took down Stevenson in five sets (25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 25-27, 15-5) before falling to Haverford in three sets (22-25, 24-26, 23-25) on Saturday in a pair of neutral site matches at Scranton. With the Saturday split, the Cardinals move to 7-5 overall as Wesleyan prepares for six straight NESCAC matches over the next three weekends.
 
Opening against Stevenson, Wesleyan built a 2-0 set lead but the Mustangs pushed the match to five sets with a convincing third set win followed by a fourth set victory that required extra points. Heading into the fifth set, the Cardinals could not have played much better as the offense hit .304 with seven kills and no errors on 23 attempts while the Mustangs committed six attack errors with India Clark '28 featured on a pair of those errors with a couple of blocks. Wesleyan won 13 of the final 16 points in the set, to claim a 15-5 match-clinching fifth set win.
 
In what was the second match this season for Wesleyan that went into a fifth set, two Cardinals produced double-digit kill totals as Michelle Jorba '25 totaled 14 with a .290 attack percentage while Morgan Mattson '28 finished with 11 kills and 15 digs for her first career double-double. Clark produced nine kills and three total blocks and five digs while Bianca Gonya '25 totaled seven total blocks, seven kills with no errors, and five digs.
 
Adrienne Nguyen '28 finished with 23 digs while Elliana Moreno '27 totaled 16. Ali Landa '26 racked up 22 assists while Paulina Marino-Bindi '27 finished with 21 assists and seven digs.
 
In the Haverford match, Wesleyan suffered three set defeats that were all decided by three points or less. The Cardinals trailed 19-13 in the second set before clawing back to take a 24-23 lead, but the Fords staved off the Wesleyan set point and scored three unanswered points to claim a crucial 26-24 win. Wesleyan led 13-9 in the third set, but Haverford countered with a 10-2 run that catapulted the Fords in front. Having to stave off another Cardinal comeback, the score was tied 23-23 late but the Fords won back-to-back points to take the match in a sweep.
 
Clark led the Cardinals with 11 kills on 22 attempts, hitting .364 for the match, while Sophie Corbeil '28 totaled nine kills. Gonya hit .600 with seven kills and Fiona LaCamera '27 tallied five kils with four digs and three total blocks.
 
Moreno led the back row with 19 digs while Landa had 23 assists and six digs.
 
Wesleyan is back at home for the first time since September 6 in their next match, playing host to Trinity on Friday at 6 PM.
