MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 17 ranked Wesleyan volleyball team made quick work of Coast Guard in a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-14, 25-23) on Saturday afternoon from Silloway Gymnasium on Homecoming. The Cardinals (18-1) are winners of 10 straight overall while Wesleyan have swept their last eight opponents, winning 25 consecutive sets in the process. The Bears (14-8) see their four-match win streak come to an end.
 
The Cardinals could do little wrong in the opening two sets, totaling 32 kills with just two attack errors. Wesleyan tacked on 12 more kills in the third set to finish the match with 44 while hitting .320.
 
Building a 14-10 lead in the first set, Wesleyan closed out the set on a 11-4 run including a 4-0 run to finish off the frame in a 25-14 triumph. Sophia Lindus '26 set the tone with six kills and no errors on 11 attacks while Mila Chan '28 added four kills and Siena Steines '28 and India Clark '28 each posted three kills. As a team, Wesleyan hit .410 in the opening set with 17 kills and one error on 39 attempts.
 
The second set was a near mirror image of the first set with the Cardinals opening the frame on a 7-1 run. Another 6-1 run followed and Wesleyan led by double digits at 15-4. The Bears closed the deficit to seven points late on but the Cardinals won four unanswered points to finish off another 25-14 win. Clark went 5-for-8 on her swings in the second set.
 
The third set was back-and-forth in the beginning before Ali Landa '26 served the Cardinals to a 6-0 run, extending their lead to 14-8. The Cardinals used a 5-0 run, highlighted by a pair of blocks and kill from Fiona LaCamera '27, to lead 23-14 before the Bears came roaring back with a 9-1 run, making it 24-23 Cardinals. On what was the third match point, Steines finished off a 25-23 third set win with her eighth kill of the match to seal the Wesleyan win.
 
Lindus finished with 11 kills and 11 digs for her fifth double-double of the season. Clark hit .600 with nine kills and no errors on 15 swings, adding three blocks and two aces to her match totals. Steines had eight kills and hit .538 on 13 attempts. LaCamera went 6-for-11 on her swings with no errors and three total blocks. Chan totaled five kills on six swings with five digs in two sets played.
 
The Cardinals are back home next weekend with a big match looming on Friday night as Wesleyan welcomes Tufts on Halloween for a 7 PM start on Friday.
