Box Score MEDFORD, MA. - Treading through the first regional tournament of the season, the Wesleyan men's tennis team made a heavy-handed showing over the weekend at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's New England Regional Championship, hosted by Tufts University and MIT, as
Harry Collomb '26 and the doubles pairing of
Chase Kasday '26 and
Ryuto Saito '29 each reached the Round of 16.
Leading the way through the weekend, Collomb nearly reached the regional quarterfinal but exited after three rounds at the hands of Amherst's Andreas Sillaste in a 1-6, 0-6 final. Collomb advanced out of the Round of 64 having won the first set before Babson's Ryan Patrick was forced to retire with a final of 7-5, 4-3. Facing Simon Volkema out of Williams, Collomb was forced to a tie break in set one, winning with the upper hand of a 7-6 (7-4) tally before stealing set two 6-4.
Tai MacDonald '26 also featured in the opening round, defeating Emerson's Filippo Nochi 7-5, 6-3. Advancing, MacDonald fell to Colby's Jason Daly in a 7-6, 0-6, 3-6 three set match.
Advancing through the main doubles draw, the early pairing of Kasday and Saito made a show in the opening Round of 64 with an 8-2 win over MIT's Rushi Patel and Shrish Choudhary. Downing Amherst's Aldiyar Abzhan and Ronald Gualario 8-6, the duo saw their run come to an end with Javier Gonzalez and Kaetan Mehta from Tufts in an 8-1 final.
The freshmen doubles pairing of
Tommy Jani and
Chase Burke played out an 8-4 victory over Saint Joseph's Karol Romer and Manny Hernandez before falling to Sebastian Mendoza and Ed Wang from Babson, 8-7 (2).
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11, as they take on the Skidmore Open in Saratoga, N.Y.
